My Approach
A personalised and collaborative approach
Every person’s experience is unique. Your history, relationships, ways of coping, strengths and hopes for the future all shape what you bring to therapy. For this reason, I believe therapy should be tailored to suit your unique needs, experiences and goals.
My role is to listen, guide and support you as we make sense of what you’re experiencing, understand patterns that no longer serve you, and work towards positive changes that matter to you. You’re the expert on your own life. Together, we can explore what may be getting in the way, make sense of your experiences and find ways forward that feel meaningful to you.
IFS at the heart of my work
Internal Family Systems (IFS) provides the foundation for my work. It offers a compassionate framework for making sense of your inner world, including the protective and vulnerable responses that shape how you think, feel and behave, and past experiences that have influenced how you see yourself, your relationships and the world today.
IFS is an important part of my practice because of the respect it brings to every part of our experience. Rather than seeing difficult reactions, emotions or patterns as something wrong with you, IFS helps you become curious about what lies behind them and understand the reasons they may have developed.
While IFS provides the underlying framework, I also draw on other evidence-based approaches when they are relevant to your needs and goals.
Bringing together what is helpful
EMDR may be used when focused processing of traumatic or disturbing experiences would be helpful. ACT principles can support psychological flexibility, clarify what matters to you and help you take meaningful action.
Somatic awareness and mindfulness helps you notice what’s happening in your body and present-moment experience, providing another way of understanding your responses and recognising when you are becoming activated.
The approaches I draw on will depend on your needs, goals and what is most helpful at different points in therapy.
Working together
Therapy is a collaborative process. We explore what is happening, consider what you’d like to be different and decide together what feels most useful to work on.
This is not about simply talking through problems or following a predetermined treatment plan. It’s about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, making sense of patterns that have developed for a reason, and support changes that positively influence how you relate to yourself, your relationships and your life.
My aim is to offer therapy that is flexible and responsive, with the intention of supporting meaningful and lasting change in the areas that matter most to you.
